NORWOOD R-1 SCHOOLS FEDERAL PROGRAMS


Title I

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended (ESEA) provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state. (Definition from US Dept of Ed)

Norwood R-1 is a Title I Schoolwide Program.  The program benefits all Early Childhood through Sixth grade students in the areas of Math and Reading. 

 

Title II

The purpose of the program is to increase academic achievement by improving teacher and principal quality. This program is carried out by: increasing the number of highly qualified teachers in classrooms; increasing the number of highly qualified principals and assistant principals in schools; and increasing the effectiveness of teachers and principals by holding schools accountable for improvements in student academic achievement. Rural Education Achievement Program (REAP)

The Rural Education Achievement Program can and will be used to supplement any of the above mentioned Federal Programs as necessary.

Federal Programs Parental Involvement

The Norwood School District recognizes that when schools work together with families to support learning, children are inclined to succeed not just in school, but throughout life. It is the school’s intent to establish a partnership that will increase parental involvement and participation in promoting the social, emotional and academic growth of children.

 

Norwood School asks parent’s to be involved in the following ways:

  • Review and provide input on the development of the Title I Schoolwide & Building Plans

  • Conducting an annual review of the Title I Parental Involvement Policies

  • Conducting an annual review of the Title I Program

  • Participating in Parental Involvement Activities/Nights (including)

    • Open House/Title I Annual Meeting

    • Family Literacy Night

    • Parent/Teacher Conferences

    • MAPmatician Night

    • Parent Communication Agendas/Folders

    • Other scheduled events & communication…

       

The district will use the evaluation findings in designing strategies for school improvement and in revising parental involvement policies and procedures at district and building levels. Federal Programs Survey

Federal law requires school districts to consult with parents on the design and implementation of Title I Programs. Since Norwood is a School-wide program, all students in the elementary are able to participate in the Title I math and reading programs to ensure student success. The school district will soon begin making plans for Title I reading and math for the next school year and we are asking for your help by completing this questionnaire. Thank you for your assistance and interest in your child's education.
